Kempten sits in the Allgäu, in southern Bavaria. FC Kempten grew out of the local gymnastics club, with football breaking off as its own department in 1908, a year after the parent body was founded in 1907. It plays now in the Landesliga Bayern-Südwest, the sixth tier of German football.
The club took the 2. Amateurliga Schwaben five times between 1949 and 1957. It has won Bezirksliga and Kreisliga titles, a handful of Schwaben Cup wins, and two runs at the Landesliga Bayern-Süd around the turn of the millennium.
Matches are played at the Illerstadion, which opened in 1963 and holds 9,000. The colours are black and white, and the club goes by FCK.
