Luckenwalde sits in Brandenburg. In 1924 and 1928 the town's side, then BV 06 Luckenwalde, reached the final of the Berlin cup.

The present club came out of the East German era. On 1 July 1963 two company sports communities, Motor and Fortschritt, merged to form FSV 63 Luckenwalde. The Potsdam district league title came in 1967 and again in 1979, and the district cup had been won in 1960, before the merger.

The modern record is one of near misses in the cup and a promotion in the league. FSV 63 lost the Brandenburg Cup final in 2016, again in 2017, and once more in 2023. The league gave them more: the Brandenburg-Liga title in 2009, then the Oberliga Nordost southern group in 2020.

The Werner-Seelenbinder-Stadion holds 3,044, but only 305 of those places are seats. The rest is terracing. The yellow and blue shirts play there against VfB Trebbin, the nearest local rival.

The club also works with 1. FC Union Berlin on youth development.
