«Golden Eaglets»
The Golden Eaglets have reached the summit of their age group five times, winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015. The first victory came when the tournament was still called the World Championship, in China, and the team kept knocking on the door for decades before consistency set in. They are not always dominant. At the 2023 World Cup in Indonesia they were knocked out on penalties by France after reaching the quarter-finals.
The shirt remains green and white, the crest an eagle. The last two titles were secured under Emmanuel Amunike. More recently, the side failed to qualify for both the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup in Qatar after a disappointing third-place finish in the regional competition.
