Rutherglen Glencairn

The Hamish B Allan Stadium sits on the site once known as Southcroft Park, though it is not, strictly, the same ground: the original was pulled down in 2007 after contamination was found on the land and the M74 motorway needed the space, and the club moved into its 1,500-seat replacement when it opened in July 2008.

Rutherglen Glencairn had already been playing in South Lanarkshire for well over a century by then, going back to 1895. The Glens built their name in junior football rather than the senior game, and the record that still stands out is four wins in the Scottish Junior Cup, spread from 1902 to 1939, with three further final defeats since, the most recent in 2022–23.

The club's clearest mark on the wider game, though, is a name that left it early. Jimmy McMenemy came through Rutherglen Glencairn before Celtic signed him, and he went on to make 456 appearances there. Alec Bennett followed a similar path out of the same dressing room, turning out for both Celtic and Rangers.

Willie Harvey ran the club for thirteen years, from 2010 to 2023, and built up its youth set-up during that time, work that sat alongside two West of Scotland Super League First Division titles won either side of his arrival, in 2010 and 2019. The local needle has traditionally been with Cambuslang Rangers, while Shawfield, the old ground of another Rutherglen rival, no longer exists.

Even the crest carries a piece of the club's own telling of itself: a football watched over by guardian angels, under the motto Ex Fumo Fama — fame from smoke.
