Schalding-Heining

The story here starts with a football match rather than a founding meeting: on 22 May 1946, players from two villages outside Passau, Schalding and Heining, took the field together against each other and finished 0-0. Most of them had played for FC Rittsteig, a club that no longer existed, and out of that friendly they formed SV Schalding, renaming it SV Schalding-Heining in the early 1950s once the two communities had properly merged into one side.

For decades the club sat in the lower tiers of Bavarian football, the kind of team known mainly to its own district. That changed in 1998, when Schalding-Heining won the first-ever Bayerischer Toto-Pokal. The Niederbayern Cup became something closer to a habit, taken four times between 1998 and 2009.

The promotion that mattered most came in 2013, when the club won the southern Bayernliga and stepped up into the Regionalliga Bayern, the fourth tier, a level well above where a village amalgamation from Passau might have been expected to reach. They returned to that Bayernliga summit again in 2023, a decade on from the first.

Passau itself supplies the club's sharpest rivalry: 1. FC Passau, the city's other side, with matches between the two billed locally simply as the Derby. The two have shared a division only in short spells, 2000-2003 and again in 2006-07, which has kept the fixture rare rather than routine. Schalding-Heining play their home matches at the Städtische Sportanlage am Reuthinger Weg, a ground holding 2,500, in the green and white that gave rise to the old Niederbayern-Wiki nickname Schoiding-Grün-Weiß.
