South Auckland Rangers

Rinal Prasad captained South Auckland Rangers as a Fiji national team player turned club leader alongside Ivan Kumar, a Fiji Under-23 international, and defender Netani Doli. That thread runs back to Otara, where the club began in 1973 before merging with Clover Park United in 1989.

The merged club spent its first 25 years at James Watson Park, then in November 2014 moved to Rongomai Park in Manukau's Flat Bush. White remains the home colour.

In the Chatham Cup, New Zealand's oldest football knockout competition, the Rangers have never gone further than the Fifth Round, reached in 1995, and no league title or major trophy sits in the club's history.

What the club has built instead is a pipeline: alongside Papatoetoe United, Papatoetoe AFC, Otahuhu United and Manukau AFC, it forms part of a South Auckland cluster that develops young players through the region's junior grades before they move into senior football. The first team itself now competes in NRF League One, the fourth tier of the Northern Region game.
