St. Louis Ambush

The St. Louis Ambush play in the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL), and the current team has yet to win a league title. It has reached the playoffs twice, in 2021–22 and again in 2024–25. Its games are staged at the Family Arena, which holds 9,643 for soccer. The arena is in St. Charles, across the Missouri River from St. Louis. The team plays in teal and black, with white as an accent. Its fiercest rivalry is with the Kansas City Comets, the other side in the in-state fixture.

The club also runs an outdoor side, FC Ambush, in USL League Two. That team plays at Spartan Field at Missouri Baptist University.

The name belongs to two separate teams. The current one was established in 2013, and it inherited the name from a franchise that played in the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) until 2000. That first Ambush reached the finals in 1994, 1998 and 1999. It won in 1995, beating the Harrisburg Heat for the NPSL Championship. Steve Trittschuh was on that title-winning team. Daryl Doran, who played for the original Ambush, holds the record for most games played in American professional indoor soccer.

The first Ambush also had a spirit squad called the "Ambush Brigade". The club has no widely used nickname.

The story began outside Missouri. The first franchise was founded in 1991 as the Tulsa Ambush. It moved to St. Louis in 1992 and took the city's name with it.
