The age group has become a reliable staging post, training out of the Dynamo Training Center in Koncha-Zaspa, outside Kyiv, where the country's youth national sides prepare.

Qualification for the finals of the UEFA U17 Championship has come four times this century — Azerbaijan in 2016, Greece in 2017, Ireland in 2019, Cyprus in 2024 —.

The shirt has stayed blue and yellow throughout, the colours of the flag, and the side is known simply as the Blue and Yellow. Oleksandr Sytnyk took charge in the current cycle, following Yuriy Moroz.

The team was never a separate creation. It came into being alongside the senior national side once Ukraine gained independence in 1992, the youngest link in a structure built from nothing in the space of a single year.
