Al-Khor SC Stadium

The structure behind the fence is defined by its immediate function. It is not a place built for history so much as for a single, decisive tournament. The modular upper tier that once rose above the stands has been dismantled, leaving the concrete tiers exposed and the capacity reduced to reflect a permanent life rather than a momentary spectacle.

Al Bayt Stadium sits on the edge of Al Khor, where the coastal road curves close to the sea. The surface is natural grass, cut short and uniform, with the white lines holding their shape under the heat.

The pitch itself tells the story of its origin. The turf was planted specifically for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, grown from seed in Qatar to withstand the local climate. It hosted the opening match when Qatar played Ecuador, and later the semi-final between France and Morocco. The building never forgot its primary purpose, even after the stands were emptied and the temporary tiers removed. It now serves as the home ground for Al-Khor SC, the local club that has played in the city since 1961.

The old stadium, where the team originally played, is gone. The new ground remains, managed by the Aspire Zone Foundation, a quiet presence on the coast.
