Bower Fold

Bower Fold sits on Mottram Road in the north of Stalybridge. The site has been in use since 1906, and while the original builder is not recorded in available sources, the pitch and the perimeter have been the same ever since. The ground is shared between two clubs: Stalybridge Celtic F.C., founded in 1909, and Oldham R.L.F.C. The total capacity is 6,500, though only 1,300–1,500 of those seats are under cover.

The main stand, built in 1996, replaced a wooden structure from 1909 that had been converted to tip-up seating with a capacity of 400. Beyond that, the Joe Jackson Stand dates from 1994, and the Lord Pendry Stand, opened in 2004, replaced a terrace from the 1950s. The ground has never carried a sponsorship name and has never been officially renamed. Historically it has hosted something of a reputation: the highest official attendance was 10,400 on 8 February 1921 for a Dick Kerr Ladies versus Rest of Lancashire XI charity match. Stalybridge Celtic’s record was 9,753 on 17 January 1923 against West Bromwich Albion in an FA Cup First Round replay. More recently it drew nearly 4,000 for an FA Cup match in 1999, and it hosted the StalyFest music festival on 9–10 May 2025, with acts including Cast, Starsailor, and Majestic.
