Estádio Olímpico do Pará
Belém, Brazil
Formerly: Estádio Alacid Nunes
The ground between Belém and the river is better known by its nickname, Mangueirão, than by its official title, the Estádio Estadual Jornalista Edgar Augusto Proença. It stands in the Mangueirão district, some distance from the city centre, which suits its function as a large regional facility rather than a tight urban venue.
Construction began in 1970 and finished with the opening on 4 March 1978, a project originally planned for 120,000 seats before the scale was reduced. The site was built by the Government of the State of Pará under Governor Alacid Nunes. The ground was renamed in 2002 after the journalist Edgar Augusto Proença.
The capacity sits at 53,645 after a renovation finished in 2023 that added a VAR centre and solar panels. The pitch is natural grass, currently the 'Celebration' Bermuda variety. The attendance record of 65,000 was set on 11 July 1999 for the derby between Paysandu and Remo; a post-renovation record of 54,864 followed on 29 September 2024 for Remo versus São Bernardo. The three local clubs, Paysandu, Remo and Tuna Luso Brasileira, share the ground. It also hosted Brazil's 2–0 victory over Argentina in 2011 and the 2025 Supercopa do Brasil Final.
The address is Rodovia Augusto Montenegro, Km 3, S/n. The stadium is managed by the State Secretariat of Sport and Leisure (SEEL).
