Rapid-Giulești Stadium
Bucharest, Romania
Formerly: Stadionul Giulești, Stadionul Giulești-Valentin Stănescu, Rapid Arena
The new ground on Calea Giulești opened in 2022, stepping in after the demolition of the old stadium that had stood since 1939. The site has always been defined by the pitch.
One thing you notice immediately is the seating. The new stadium has replaced that with a uniform, modern look.
The pitch is a hybrid surface, natural grass reinforced with synthetic fibers. It has heating and drainage systems installed.
FC Rapid București moved in upon completion. Before them, FC Sportul Studențesc București had used the old site for a few years, but that chapter closed when the demolition began. The venue also hosted several Romania national team matches in the UEFA Nations League and three group stage matches of the 2023 European U21 Championship.
The stands are named, with the first stand reserved for Valentin Stănescu, a tribute to the coach. The rest of the complex includes five levels of facilities, covering about 40,500 square meters. There are athlete accommodations and VIP areas inside.
The attendance record at the new stadium is 13,600, set during the Romania versus Montenegro match in June 2022.
