Columbus Crew and Pumas shared the spoils in a Liga Cup Group Stage encounter that stretched into extra time on Monday night. The sides finished 1-1 after 120 minutes before Pumas won the penalty shootout 3-2 to advance. T. Karumanchi opened the scoring for the hosts before A. Angulo equalised for the visitors.

Karumanchi gave Columbus Crew the lead in the ninth minute, but the hosts saw their advantage wiped out when Angulo struck just before half-time. The Colombian midfielder had already been booked by the 37th minute before finding the net. Herrera was sent off for Pumas in the 72nd minute after receiving a second caution, and a goal followed shortly after in the 73rd minute.

The result leaves Pumas with momentum after two heavy defeats to Cincinnati and Charlotte earlier this month. Columbus Crew come off a run of four wins and a draw, but the penalty miss by Martinez means their progress in the competition could depend on future performances.
