Deggendorf cruise past Lindau with emphatic six-goal victory
Deggendorf moved up to seventh place in the Oberliga South with a comprehensive 6-0 win over Lindau on Sunday afternoon. The visitors made no mistake in their first league outing of the season, ground out the win with authority from start to finish.
It was a familiar pattern for Deggendorf, who had shown glimpses of vulnerability in their 2-5 defeat to Regensburg back in August before recovering with a 2-1 victory over Heilbronner Falken last weekend. Lindau, meanwhile, are running out of games to find their feet after a heavy 4-7 loss to Hochstadt Alligators on their opening fixture.
Our prediction from earlier this week called for an away victory with 57 per cent confidence, and the result vindicated that assessment. Deggendorf's defensive solidity against Heilbronn suggested they would be hard to break down, and Lindau's recent form — including that 4-7 hammering — indicated they would struggle to contain quality opposition.
The home side's recent results tell a story of inconsistency. They had beaten Oberthurgau 5-0 in September before losing to Rißsee 3-4 in February. That February run also saw victories over Stuttgart and defeats to Hochstadt, but those matches belong to a different season entirely.
Deggendorf's own history shows similar ups and downs. They had won 5-3 against Bayreuth and 3-2 against Memmingen in February, but also suffered defeats to Erlangen and Regensburg. The consistency they showed against Heilbronn appears to have carried over into this campaign.
Lindau now sit bottom of the table on zero points after one defeat, while Deggendorf occupy seventh with a clean record. The gap between them is significant — and could widen further if Lindau cannot respond to this performance.
