Second-tier basketball for a reserve side means one thing above all: feeding players upward. Žabiny Brno B sits in the 1. celostátní liga žen, the tier below the top-flight Ženská basketbalová liga.

The line between the two clubs on paper is thin. Under the name BK SŠMH Brno, the reserve team traces back to 1996, three years after the senior side's founding.

The results tell a story of a team built to be outgrown. Winning the 1. liga in 2008/09 earned promotion to the top flight, and another climb followed via the playoffs in 2012/13, but a season in the ŽBL in 2013/14 ended not on the court but with administrative relegation. Runner-up finishes in 2005/06, 2014/15 and 2016/17 fit the same pattern.

Kateřina Galíčková is the clearest case of that design working. She played for the reserve side in 2015/16 before stepping up to the senior squad and on to youth international duty for the Czech Republic.
