Racing FC Union Luxembourg

The Stade Achille Hammerel holds 5,814 people, and only 814 of them get a seat.

That shape was arranged on 12 May 2005, when three clubs from the capital — CA Spora Luxembourg, Union Luxembourg and CS Alliance 01 — folded into one. Between them they had won 28 national championships and 21 cups, none of which the merged club is allowed to count as its own. The record starts again at zero in 2005, even though one of the lines running into it, Racing Club Luxembourg, goes back to 1907.

The blue-and-whites came closest to the title in 2007–08, finishing second. The trophies arrived later, and both were cups. In the 2017–18 final against US Hostert, the tie went to penalties and Julien Jahier scored the one that settled it. Four years on, in 2021–22, the opponent was F91 Dudelange — and Racing-Union won 3–2.

Dudelange remain the measuring stick, along with FC Differdange 03 and Jeunesse Esch.

The names supporters still trade come mostly from the predecessor clubs. Nico Braun scored 25 goals in 22 matches during an unbeaten season in the 1970s. Johny Léonard finished as the league's top scorer three times. Neither played for the club that exists now, which is part of what makes the Hammerel an awkward place to talk about history.
