The 11 Nisan Stadyumu does not hide in a city centre.

The ground has lived through shifts in name and purpose. Originally opened as the Şanlıurfa GAP Arena, it was renamed in 2017 to commemorate the liberation of the city in 1920. The stadium has hosted matches of significance beyond the local level. It served as a backup venue for Turkey’s Euro 2016 bid and staged the 2024 Turkcell Süper Kupa Final, a match that drew attention far beyond the region.

What makes the place distinct is its isolation and the events it has sheltered. The bowl itself holds a capacity just under 29,000. It has seen high-stakes football, including a Ziraat Turkey Cup Final where Trabzonspor defeated Fenerbahçe, and even a FIM Freestyle Motocross World Championship event. The primary tenants, Şanlıurfaspor and Karaköprü Belediyespor, play on its natural grass surface, but the stadium’s history is broader than any single club.

The management falls to the Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality, which oversees the facility but does not maintain a dedicated website for it. The arena exists as a public asset, situated on Mevlana Caddesi in the Sancaktar quarter.
