Maiden Castle
Durham, United Kingdom
Formerly: Maiden Castle Sports Centre, The Graham Sports Centre, Durham University Sport and Wellbeing Park
The Maiden Castle ground in Durham is home to Durham Women FC.
Durham Women FC moved into the new stand in September 2020. The 300-seat covered stand faces the road, and behind it the three 3G pitches lie in a row. A £32 million investment brought the changing rooms, the cover, and the turf. — came close to it in January 2024.
The site has changed its name three times since it opened in 1965: Maiden Castle Sports Hall and Playing Fields, then the Graham Sports Centre after the registrar, and now the Durham University Sport and Wellbeing Park. The original builders were R.E. Coleman Ltd, the architects Cordingley and McIntyre. The 2012 renovation cost £6.7 million; the 2019 expansion, by Galliford Try and FaulknerBrowns Architects, was the big one.
