A suspended cable-stayed roof hangs overhead, a concave spherical shell made of intersecting rigid cables that give the space its circular shape. The diameter of the building is 140 meters, and the height exceeds 50 meters, wrapped in spiral ramps for spectator access.

Inside, the natural ice surface measures 60 by 30 meters. Above the centre circle, a central "media cube" hangs from the ceiling, displaying match information to the stands.

HC Spartak Moscow plays its home games here since the 2021/2022 season. Before that, the venue hosted other events — concerts by The Black Eyed Peas in 2007, Ozzy Osbourne in 2010, and Scorpions in 2010. The PBC CSKA Moscow basketball team also uses the arena for EuroLeague matches.

The building underwent reconstruction from January 2013 to December 2015, funded by the Moscow city budget, to reinforce load-bearing structures that had developed cracks. In 2017, it was renamed the Anatoly Tarasov Megasport Palace of Sports, honouring the Soviet hockey coach.

The highest recorded attendance for a sporting event was 13,500 spectators, set on 23 March 2012 during a KHL playoff match between HC Dynamo Moscow and HC Torpedo. The arena sits on the Khodynka Field in the Dynamo district of Moscow.
