Stadiumi Liri Ballabani

The stadium in Burrel is not a grand structure. The capacity is modest, taking three thousand people, or two and a half according to the tighter estimates.

It opened in 1986. For years it carried the weight of a different era, known as Stadiumi 31 Korriku, named for the founding of the anti-fascist movement in the summer of 1943. It was renamed for Liri Ballabani. The change did not alter the building itself.

KS Burreli play their matches on the natural grass pitch, a rectangle of green surrounded by the reddish-brown of the athletics track. The club sits in the Albanian First Division (Kategoria e Parë), a tier where the stakes are local and the travel is short. The stadium does not host international fixtures or cup finals. Its purpose is singular.

A renovation took place in 2019, funded by the municipality and local business cooperation, but the work was cosmetic. The name remained Stadiumi Liri Ballabani. The seats do not move; the track does not spin. You can see the city rising behind the stands, a mix of concrete blocks and low buildings, with the mountains hanging in the distance. There are no official attendance records for the ground. The numbers are small, and the games are played in full view of the town.

The facility has nothing to prove. It is a place for a local team, a place that has outlasted its old name and its political baggage. The surface is grass, the seats are plastic, and the track is there for those who need to run.
