Wilderness Lane

Wilderness Lane sits just off the main road in Harleston, Norfolk, where the club has played since the late nineteenth century.

The pitch is natural grass. In the wet months it becomes heavy and bobbly. That claggy surface has shaped how the match is played. The lack of floodlights adds to the character.

The facilities are modest. A tiny two-level metal stand sits near the south-east corner. Only one section offers seats, and it holds about 122 people along the halfway line. The rest is uncovered standing. The total capacity reaches 1,500 when you count the terraced areas.

The club failed ground grading criteria when it lacked floodlights and was relegated from the Eastern Counties League Premier Division back to the Anglian Combination in 2019. They earned promotion back to the Premier Division after the 2020–21 season. The pitch remains the same natural surface throughout.

Locals still call it The Recreation Ground. You can walk past the tennis club and bowls club to the south, then reach the gate. Housing borders the other sides, closing in the view.

The attendance record is not documented. Recent match attendances have ranged from 145 to 178 spectators. The ground does not demand attention; it simply exists as the place where the club has always played.
