Zimní stadion Václava Nedomanského
Hodonín, Czechia
Formerly: Zimní stadion Teza Hodonin, Zimní stadion Hodonín
The Zimní stadion Václava Nedomanského does not shout for attention. While modern halls are built for spectacle, this arena was born from a different kind of necessity. It was the first artificial ice rink in South Moravia, opened in 1958.
The structure has lived through several lives. It began as a simple public utility. Decades later, the concrete shell was reworked for a major reconstruction between 2001 and 2006. Now, another phase of work is underway to replace the aging cooling systems.
Inside, the atmosphere is defined by the proximity of the stands to the boards.
The name on the door is the most recent chapter. Formerly known as Zimní stadion Teza Hodonin after its energy sponsor, the city council renamed it in 2014 to honour Václav Nedomanský. He is a local legend who played abroad, a reminder that the talent generated here can travel further than the town itself.
