Lebanese 1st Division is the top-tier men's volleyball competition in Lebanon, governed by the Lebanese Volleyball Federation (LVF). The league sits at the apex of the national pyramid, featuring a format that combines a regular season with a knockout phase. The current structure involves a round-robin schedule where teams play each other multiple times, typically resulting in around 21 matches per side. Following this qualification phase, the top eight teams advance to a "Final 8" stage, comprising quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals to determine the champion. While the LVF has been recognized by the FIVB since 1949, the specific founding year of the domestic league itself remains unrecorded in available sources. The competition is distinct from other Lebanese sports leagues due to the intense rivalry between sectarian-based clubs, which reflects broader social dynamics in the country. Historically, Sagesse Sports Club (Hekmeh) is cited as the most successful club, though exact title counts are obscured by incomplete historical records. In recent years, dominance has been shared between Al Zahraa and Anwar, with Speed Ball Chekka also emerging as a significant force. Promotion and relegation mechanisms are less standardized in public records compared to other leagues. A "Barrage" playoff system has historically been used between the 1st and 2nd Divisions. For instance, in the 2022-2023 season, the 1st Division champion Al-Anwar faced the 2nd Division champion Speedball Shaka in a decisive match. Al-Anwar was awarded the title due to the opponent's non-appearance, highlighting the variability in how top-tier status is confirmed. Specific current rules regarding the number of teams promoted or relegated remain unclear in available sources. The league currently includes clubs such as Anwar, Blat, Bouchrieh, Chabeb Batroun, Chikka, and Hboub, competing under the oversight of the federation that was founded in the mid-20th century.
