Campeonato Honda is the top tier of Portuguese men’s volleyball. It sits at the summit of the national pyramid, governed by the Federação Portuguesa de Voleibol (FPV), which was established in 1947. The competition has existed since 1946, with the opening season concluding in 1946–47. Sporting CP claimed the most recent title in 2024–25, marking their eighth victory.
The league currently features twelve clubs, including Sporting CP, Leixoes SC, and Clube K. A regular season determines the standings before the field splits into two groups. The top four teams enter the "Campeonato de Elite" to fight for the national crown. Those placed fifth through eighth contest a separate bracket for positions five to eight. The winner of that secondary playoff meets the third-place team from the Elite phase to decide the "Campeão da 1ª Divisão" title. Relegation drops teams down to the second division.
Sporting Clube de Espinho holds the record for success with eighteen titles. A.E.I.S. Técnico follows with thirteen, while SL Benfica has won twelve. FC Porto and Sporting CP each possess nine and eight championships respectively. Castelo Maia Ginásio Clube has secured four titles. The league operates under a sponsorship deal with UNA Seguros, under which it is officially known as the Liga Una Seguros. This commercial arrangement distinguishes it from the parallel women’s competition, which runs under a different sponsor.
Performance in the Elite phase offers European opportunities. The two highest-ranked teams from that stage qualify for the CEV Challenge Cup. The structure ensures that every match carries weight, from the initial group stages through to the final playoff rounds. Clubs compete annually for domestic supremacy and continental spots.
