The Chinese Volleyball Super League (CVL) Women stands as the premier professional competition for women’s volleyball in China. Organized by the Chinese Volleyball Association (CVA), the league traces its origins to 1996, when it began as the Chinese Volleyball League. A significant rebranding occurred in 2017, establishing the current CVL name following the full professionalization of the sport. The structure evolved further in the 2024-25 season with the introduction of a divisional format, placing the featured clubs within Division A.
The season operates through a double round-robin regular season before moving into a complex playoff stage. This knockout phase utilizes group stages and a mix of best-of-three and best-of-five series to determine the winner. A distinctive element of the CVL is the mid-season promotion and relegation playoff. This fixture pits the bottom-placed team in Division A against the leading side from Division B, adding a layer of competitive urgency throughout the campaign.
Historically, the league has seen Tianjin Bohai Bank emerge as the most dominant force, securing sixteen titles. However, the 2024-25 championship was claimed by Jiangsu Zenith Steel. The competition features prominent sponsorship from entities such as Bohai Bank, Zenith Steel, and BAIC Motor. While the league includes fourteen teams in its top tier, the specific profile focuses on the six participating clubs: Beijing Women, Fujian Women, Henan Women, Jiangsu ECE Women, Liaoning Women, and Shandong Women. These sides contest for the national crown within a system that balances regular season consistency with high-stakes playoff performance.
