About

The SuperLiga stands as the premier professional volleyball competition in Brazil. Organized by the Confederação Brasileira de Voleibol, it operates through separate men’s and women’s divisions known as Série A. The tournament traces its lineage to the Campeonato Brasileiro de Clubes, which began in 1976 and became professionalised in 1980. After a period under the name Liga Nacional from 1988, the event adopted the current title in 1994.

Competition structure relies on a double round-robin format during the regular season, with teams playing each other home and away. The men’s division currently hosts twelve clubs, while the women’s league accommodates a variable number of participants, typically between ten and twelve. Playoffs decide the ultimate winner, with the men’s series featuring best-of-three quarterfinals and semifinals before a single-match final. The women’s playoffs follow a similar path but extend the semifinals to best-of-five. Relegation and promotion link the tiers: the bottom two men’s sides drop to Série B, where the winner gains elevation. In the women’s circuit, the top two Série B teams move up.

Administrative rules ensure competitive balance through a player ranking system that assigns point values to athletes, allowing foreign players to count as zero points. Since the 2012–13 season, teams have been limited to two foreign players. Historically, Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei holds the record for the most men’s titles with ten, followed by Minas Tênis Clube with seven. In the women’s division, Praia Clube claimed the 2025–26 championship. The league has utilised various commercial partners, including BB Seguros and Bet7k, to support its operations.
