Organised by the National Volleyball League (NVL) under the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation, the competition serves as the premier men’s volleyball championship in the country. Established in 1945, it sits at Level 1 of the domestic sports pyramid and determines the national champion alongside the primary European qualification spot. The league currently operates under the sponsorship brand efbet Super Volley, having previously undergone name changes to reflect backing from entities such as Bachkovo Izvorna Voda and Sami-M.
The competitive structure features a regular season of home-and-away matches involving eleven to thirteen clubs. This represents a shift from the historical format, which utilised sixteen teams split into two groups. Following the regular campaign, the top sides advance to the playoffs. The four highest-ranked teams receive byes to the semifinals, while lower-ranked opponents contest quarterfinals. Semifinals and finals are decided through best-of-five series. The bottom team faces direct relegation to the First League (A NVG), while the twelfth-place side enters a playoff against the loser of that tier’s final.
CSKA Sofia holds the record for the most titles with 29, including a dominant period during the communist era. Levski Sofia follows with 18 victories and claimed the most recent championships, winning both the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons. Neftochimik Burgas won six titles, establishing itself as the leading force in the 2010s and early 2020s. The competition also boasts a singular European achievement: CSKA Sofia reached the final of the CEV European Champions Cup in 1968–69, remaining the only Bulgarian men’s club to reach that stage. Unlike the Bulgarian Cup, which offers secondary European qualification, this league secures the main berth for the CEV Champions League. A separate top-tier women’s league also carries the SuperLiga designation.
