The Meistriliiga Women stands as the premier volleyball competition in Estonia. It operates at the apex of the national pyramid, sitting above the second-tier Naiste I liiga. The league was established in 1992, marking the resumption of national championships following the restoration of Estonian independence. Organizers include the Estonian Volleyball Federation (Eesti Võrkpalli Liit, EVF).
The competition format for the 2024/2025 season features five or six teams. Participants engage in a double round-robin tournament during the regular season. Every team plays each other twice, hosting home and away fixtures. This structure ensures a balanced schedule before the decisive stages.
After the regular campaign, the top teams advance to a playoff stage. These playoffs determine the national champion through semi-finals and finals. Both rounds are typically contested as best-of-5 series, requiring the first team to secure three wins. A promotion and relegation system connects the Meistriliiga with the second division. This mechanism often involves a transition tournament or playoff for the lowest-placed teams, although rules may vary annually.
A notable characteristic of the league is the inclusion of Audentese SG/Noortekoondis. This squad is composed of players from the Estonian women's youth national team. By competing in the senior domestic league, these young talents gain valuable experience against established professionals. This arrangement distinguishes the Estonian league from its neighbours in the Baltic region.
Historical dominance in the competition has shifted over time. In the modern post-independence era, TalTech has asserted control, winning four consecutive titles from 2020/2021 through 2024/2025. Other recent victors include Tallinna Ülikool/Kikas and Kohila VK. The league also serves as a platform for Estonian clubs participating in the separate Baltic Women's Volleyball League, which enforces different regulations regarding foreign players.
