Al-Ahly Fight Back to Beat ENPPI 3:2 in Season Opener
Al-Ahly completed a comeback to defeat ENPPI 3:2 in the opening round of the Premier League on 23 August 2026. The hosts trailed 2:0 after twenty-four minutes before finding their way back into the game. Zizo converted a penalty in the sixty-ninth minute to equalise, and Afsha scored late to secure all three points.
ENPPI opened the scoring through Ali Ehab in the seventeenth minute. Mohamed Hamdi missed a penalty for the visitors shortly after, in the twenty-third minute, but M. Essam restored their lead just one minute later. Al-Ahly pulled one back through M. Ateya in the thirty-fourth minute before Zizo's spot-kick levelled matters. Afsha's stoppage-time strike proved decisive.
Al-Ahly controlled the tempo with seventy percent possession and registered eleven shots on target. ENPPI managed only two shots on target despite creating the same number of big chances. The visitors were more direct, but could not convert their opportunities against a goalkeeper who made no saves.
Both sides made multiple substitutions in the second half. Al-Ahly introduced K. Fouad, A. Kouka and T. Mohamed in the sixty-second minute, while ENPPI responded with changes for A. Ehab, A. Ismail and Kahraba sixty-five minutes in. Zizo and A. Bencharki came on for the hosts in the eighty-sixth minute.
Hazem Temsah received a yellow card for ENPPI in the seventy-seventh minute, and Marwan Attia was booked for the hosts shortly after full-time. The result moves Al-Ahly to four points in the table, while ENPPI remain bottom after three matches with a single point.
Al-Ahly had lost 1:2 to Barcelona in their most recent fixture before this league opener. ENPPI came into the match following a win over Wadi Degla and a draw with the same side, but this result extends their winless run to three games without victory.
