Nové Zámky secured a 2-0 victory over Družstevník Beňušov in the Round of 128 of the Cup on Monday evening. The away side kept a clean sheet and moved further ahead in their domestic campaign. The result comes as a slight improvement on their previous meeting with the same opponents.
Those two sides crossed paths before, when Nové Zámky ran out 4-0 winners at home in July 2024. This time the margin was narrower but the outcome was the same. Družstevník Beňušov failed to trouble their visitors enough to get anything from the tie.
The home side have been struggling for consistency this season. Their most recent outing saw them beaten 5-0 by Nitra in late July, and they have not found the net in their last two fixtures. That run of poor form will have done little to lift confidence ahead of this cup fixture.
Nové Zámky's recent results have been mixed rather than brilliant. They shared the points with Zlaté Moravce in mid-July before suffering a defeat to Galanta four days later. Two losses to Šamorín earlier in the year suggest they can be vulnerable, but the draw with Boleráz showed resilience.
The win puts Nové Zámky through to the next stage of the competition. Družstevník Beňušov's cup run comes to an end, adding to a season that has seen them lose more often than they have won.
