Dubrava Zagreb secured a narrow victory over Opatija, 2:1, in the Prva NL regular season on Saturday. The result keeps both sides rooted near the bottom of the table, though the home side pulled ahead. It wasn't a game that promised much, given how both teams have stumbled so far this campaign.
The opening exchanges were cagey until N. Macolic broke the deadlock in the 16th minute. I remember the tension spiking around the 20th minute, just after the restart. By then, Opatija had settled into their rhythm, and B. Olabige brought them level in the 32nd minute.
Tension rose early, with Macolic picking up a yellow card in the 38th minute for a late challenge. After the break, Dubrava turned to the kids, making three substitutions in quick succession. They pressed high up the pitch, hoping to catch Opatija in possession, but to be fair, the visitors held firm. The home side knew they had to play the second half a man up mentally, even if the numbers were equal.
The decisive moment arrived when M. Novak-Stanko found space in the box and finished calmly in the 83rd minute.
