Metalurkherson Edge Past Probi Horodenka in First League
Metalurkherson took a narrow victory over Probi Horodenka in the First League's second round, winning 3-1 at home on Saturday. The hosts had already accumulated 10 points from six matches, sitting in sixth place, while their visitors languished in 16th with just two points and no wins to their name. By then, the gap between sides looked even wider than the table suggested.
Daniil Prykhodko opened the scoring with a penalty in the 27th minute before Probi Horodenka responded through Daniel Vernattus. Vernattus struck twice in quick succession, finding the net in the 32nd and 37th minutes to take his side into a 2-1 lead. Maksym Girnyi restored parity from the spot just before half-time, sending Metalurkherson into the break level at 2-2.
The second half brought drama in the shape of a red card for Girnyi in the 83rd minute, leaving the hosts with ten men. But Metalurkherson held on grimly despite the numerical disadvantage, and Daniil Prykhodko came off the bench to help see out the result. There were several substitutions across the final quarter, with Danilo Honcharuk, Maksym Lopyronok, and Prykhodko all coming on.
The victory moved Metalurkherson further clear in mid-table, while Probi Horodenka's winless run continued. They have drawn twice and lost four of their six games, still searching for that elusive first point of the season. To be fair, they showed spirit in coming back against a side that had beaten them previously.
What matters most here is not the final scoreline but how the match unfolded. Three goals came in the first half, and the second half belonged to survival rather than ambition. The hosts now hold their form, while Probi Horodenka must find answers before the next round.
