A. Cicale

Alfie Cicale spent his teenage years in Norwich City's academy, and by the time he left the club's youth setup he took a route rarely seen in professional football: he went to Oxford University, where he studied history. Football did not stop there. Playing for Oxford University A.F.C., he was named Player of the Match in the 137th Varsity Match against Cambridge in 2022.

It was only after finishing his studies that Cicale turned professional, signing his first senior contract with Finland's Vaasan Palloseura as a free agent in March 2024. Over two seasons at VPS he made 41 league appearances and scored twice, an injury in the middle of 2024 aside.

That spell was enough to earn him a move to HJK Helsinki in December 2025. The transfer, on a two-year deal with an option for a further season, has been described by observers as a story worth telling in its own right.

Cicale, who could have claimed Italian nationality through his father, chose to remain a British player. At HJK he is set to compete as a left-back or winger, the same profile he carried through his university years and his time in Vaasa.
