About the player
Abdullahi Bewene started out at the Central Football Academy Abuja before signing for Baník Ostrava in March 2023, initially joining the club's reserve side in the Chance Národní Liga. The midfielder spent the following seasons out on loan: first at MFK Havířov for the 2023/2024 campaign, then at SK Hanácká Slavia Kroměříž, where he made 17 appearances and scored once during the 2024/2025 season.
The path back to Ostrava's first team came in September 2025, when Bewene made his debut against Sparta Prague. He went on to establish himself as a regular starter through the 2025/2026 season, appearing in 28 matches and setting up a goal during the relegation playoff. In August 2026, he signed a new five-year contract, tying him to Baník Ostrava until June 2031.
Bewene's international story began at youth level, when he was named in Nigeria's under-17 squad, the Golden Eaglets, in January 2021. The senior call-up followed years later: in June 2026, coach Eric Chelle included him in the Super Eagles squad for the first time. He made his debut on 2 June 2026 in a 2-2 draw against Poland in Warsaw, and later came on as a substitute in a defeat to Portugal.
