About the player
Aziz made his name in Portuguese football before the road took him east. He began his senior career at Vizela, then spent time out on loan at Vitória Guimarães B and the senior Vitória Guimarães side, followed by a further loan at Estoril. Those years shaped him into a forward good enough for Rio Ave to sign him permanently in 2021, and he stayed on the books there until 2024, the longest settled spell of his career so far.
In between, Yakubu had his first taste of Chinese football on loan at Wuhan Three Towns in 2023. From Rio Ave he moved on to Shimizu S-Pulse in Japan for the 2024–2025 season, where he was born in Tamale.
In 2025 he returned to China, joining Qingdao West Coast on loan, with reports pointing to a permanent transfer to follow in 2026. The move brought him back to a club still known to many under its former name, Qingdao Youth Island, before the rebrand. Across Portugal, China and Japan, Yakubu has built a career.
