About the player
Islam Melikov's football education began at the Dynamo Dagestan academy in Makhachkala, where in 2022 he was named the best player of a Dynamo Academy tournament. That performance opened the door to Moscow: he joined the Dynamo Moscow youth setup and spent the 2023–2024 season with the club's reserve side, though his appearances there were limited to four matches in the Youth Football League.
Melikov signed with Rostov's academy. Across spells with Rostov-M and Rostov-2 through the 2025–2026 season, he made 45 appearances in the Youth Football League, scoring seven goals and setting up four more. He was named Best Player of the Month for November 2025 in Division A of the league, a run that included a two-goal display against Dynamo Moscow on 7 November 2025. He never made the step up to Rostov's first team.
In January 2026, Melikov left Rostov as a free agent and signed for Veles on a contract running to the summer of 2028. The move gave him his first taste of senior football: he made 15 appearances in the 2025/2026 campaign across the Second League's Division A Gold and the First League. He has continued to feature for the club into the following season, adding further First League appearances in 2026/2027.
He has yet to be capped by Russia at senior international level.
