Joseph Anang

Joseph Anang moved to England as a teenager, joining West Ham United's academy in 2017 after starting out with Danbort FC and Wa All Stars in Ghana, and signed his first professional contract with the London club on 1 July 2018. His senior career began on loan at Stevenage, where he made 13 league appearances before a switch: a loan to St Patrick's Athletic in January 2022. That spell included a Europa Conference League tie against NŠ Mura in which he saved penalties in a shootout to send his side through. A second loan, at Derby County, was cut short by injury without him making an appearance.

When his West Ham contract expired in June 2024, Anang returned to St Patrick's Athletic permanently, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal on a free transfer. The move paid off: across the 2025 season he kept 18 clean sheets in 36 games, the most of any goalkeeper in the League of Ireland Premier Division that year. He reached his 100th career appearance on 17 July 2025 against Hegelmann in the Conference League, keeping a clean sheet for a fourth straight match.

Anang's international path has taken an unusual turn. Capped once by England at Under-20 level in 2019, against Iceland, he later switched allegiance to Ghana. He received his first senior call-up in May 2025 for the Unity Cup as an unused substitute, then made his senior debut against Japan on 14 November 2025. In June 2026, head coach Carlos Queiroz named him in Ghana's 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup, alongside fellow goalkeepers Benjamin Asare and Lawrence Ati-Zigi.
