Laurent Mandy

Laurent Mendy's route into professional football ran through English non-league grounds rather than academy systems. He started out at Thamesmead Town in 2017, scoring 12 goals in 45 appearances, before a string of moves took him through Greenwich Borough, Whyteleafe, Ashford United, Dartford and VCD Athletic in the space of little more than two years. In March 2020 he left England altogether for a free transfer to Sweden's IFK Åmål.

It was at Macclesfield FC, which he joined in 2021, that Mendy's career took shape. He was made captain and held the armband as the club won the Northern Premier League title in the 2023/24 season and secured promotion. He was named in the Northern Premier League Premier Division Team of the Season for 2024/25.

Mendy moved on to Forest Green Rovers in July 2025, again as captain, and made 44 appearances in the 2025/26 season. His transfer to Heart of Midlothian, agreed for a fee of £500,000 with add-ons potentially taking it to £1 million, set a new club record for Forest Green Rovers. He signed a three-year contract with Hearts.

Standing 191 cm tall, Mendy plays predominantly as a defensive midfielder, though he has also featured at centre-back. He has not been capped by France at senior international level.
