Leandro Jones Johan Bacuna

Leandro Bacuna is a product of the FC Groningen academy, where he made his Eredivisie debut against PSV in October 2009 and went on to make 109 league appearances before Aston Villa signed him in 2013. His career then moved through the English game for close to a decade, taking in spells at Reading, Cardiff City and Watford, before he returned to Groningen in 2023 and later joined Bandırmaspor and, most recently, Iğdır FK.

Born in Groningen to Dutch and Curaçaoan parents, Bacuna chose to represent Curaçao at international level. He made his debut for the side in 2016 and has since become its joint-most capped player, level with Eloy Room. He was part of the Curaçao squad that won the 2017 Caribbean Cup, and at the 2019 Gold Cup he scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Honduras. He also featured at the 2025 Gold Cup.

The high point of his international career came as captain, when he led Curaçao to their first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance in 2026.

At club level, Bacuna has been a steady presence rather than a trophy winner, racking up over a hundred appearances each at Aston Villa and Cardiff City as a right-footed midfielder. His most productive spell in terms of goals came at Bandırmaspor, where he scored six times in nineteen appearances during the 2025–26 season, before moving on to Iğdır FK in January 2026.
