About the player
Leonardo arrived at Shanghai Port in January 2025. Born in Sorocaba, the forward played for Chapecoense before spells at Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan's J1 League and then back into Chinese football with Zhejiang and Shandong Taishan. He settled in Shanghai, where he now wears the number 45 shirt.
He plays right-footed and is used centrally as a striker, though he has also been fielded in wider attacking positions when needed. His move to Shanghai Port represented a return to the Chinese Super League rather than a first arrival, having already spent time in the division with Zhejiang and Shandong Taishan.
At Shanghai Port, Leonardo shares a squad with Oscar, the club's long-serving Brazilian playmaker. Leonardo's own record, distinct from Oscar's and from that of the Chinese defender Mao Rui, who also passed through the club, places him firmly as a forward.
