About the player
Levi Smans was born in Herten, a village within the municipality of Roermond. He came through the youth ranks at SHH before joining VVV-Venlo's academy, then spent a season back at SHH as an amateur before VVV-Venlo took him back into their youth setup in 2021. He made his professional debut for VVV-Venlo that August and signed his first professional contract that November.
His breakthrough came in the 2023/24 season, when he scored nine goals in 35 Eerste Divisie appearances and was named the league's best talent of the fourth period, winning the Bronzen Kampioensschild. A year earlier he had already picked up the Jan Klaassens Award as VVV-Venlo's best academy player. By the time he left the club, he had made 68 appearances and scored 10 goals for VVV-Venlo.
That form took him to sc Heerenveen in May 2024, on a four-year contract until 2028, for a fee reported at €350,000. He made his debut against Ajax and scored his first goal for the club against RKC Waalwijk. Smans went on to make 33 Eredivisie appearances in his first season in Friesland.
His second season at Heerenveen was cut short early. He has not yet been capped by the Netherlands at any level.
