About the player
Michael Kostka came through the German system, first at Hannover 96 and then in the RB Leipzig academy, where he stayed until 2022 and picked up caps for Germany at U16, U17, U18 and U19 level. He also has youth caps for Poland, at U15, U16 and U20.
Rather than pushing for a senior debut in Germany, Kostka moved to Poland in summer 2022, joining Miedź Legnica in the Ekstraklasa. The club was relegated to the I Liga at the end of his first season there, and it was in the second tier that he established himself as a regular starter at right-back. Across three seasons at Miedź Legnica he built up a substantial run of appearances, and in the 2025 promotion playoffs he scored the winning goal in the semi-final against Wisła Kraków. Miedź Legnica went on to reach the playoff final, but lost to Wisła Płock and missed out on promotion to the Ekstraklasa.
With his contract in Legnica expiring, Kostka returned to Germany on a free transfer in July 2025, signing for Rot-Weiß Essen in the 3. Liga. He is listed as capable with both feet, though Transfermarkt records him as right-footed, and he plays primarily as a right-back.
