Oliver Gerbig

Oliver Gerbig's road to the Hong Kong national team ran through Taiwan and Germany before it ran through Hong Kong itself. Born in Happy Valley to a German father, he spent his youth years with Inter Taoyuan and then Royal Blues, moving to Taipei Red Lions in 2018 only for a knee injury to cut that spell short. He then played for amateur clubs in Germany before finding his way back to Hong Kong football.

The breakthrough came at Kitchee SC, where he established himself as a centre-back between 2022 and 2024. It was a productive spell: the Hong Kong Premier League title in 2022–23, the Senior Challenge Shield in both 2022–23 and 2023–24, and the Hong Kong FA Cup in 2022–23. That form earned him a senior call-up to the Hong Kong national team in November 2023 and a place in the squad for the Asian Cup that year.

In February 2024, Henan Songshan Longmen brought him into the Chinese Super League. He got off the mark with his first goal for the club, and in July 2024 he was sent out on loan to China League One side Dalian Yingbo, where he made seven appearances before the loan expired at the end of December. He returned to Henan for 2025 and has since become a fixture in the side, starting regularly in the Chinese Super League with more than fifteen appearances across the season.
