Sean McHale

Loan spells have shaped Sean McHale's early career more than any single club shirt. He came through Shelbourne's youth ranks before switching to St Patrick's Athletic in 2022, he signed his first professional contract there in 2023 but has spent most of his senior football away from the club, out on loan.

The 2024 season took him to Wexford, and 2025 brought a move to Dundalk, where he won the League of Ireland First Division title and lifted the Leinster Senior Cup. That campaign ended in painful circumstances: an ankle injury sustained on 18 July 2025 in an FAI Cup match against Sligo Rovers required surgery two months later.

McHale returned from that setback to join the very club he had been injured against, signing for Sligo Rovers on loan in February 2026 for the remainder of the season. He made around 17 to 18 appearances before being recalled by St Patrick's Athletic in July 2026, reverting to the parent club where he now wears the number 33 shirt.

At youth international level, McHale has represented the Republic of Ireland, collecting caps for the under-17s before adding an appearance for the under-18s in 2022. He has yet to add senior international honours to his record.
