About the player
Sergey Nikolaev is a graduate of the SSHOR Zenit academy in Saint Petersburg, who joined Leningradets' senior squad in July 2020 and made his professional debut that August against Rodina — and stayed put, extending his contract in December 2024 through to the end of the 2026/27 season.
Nikolaev won the Second League with Leningradets in the 2022/23 season and again in 2025/26, having already picked up a bronze medal in 2021/22. By July 2026 he had made 150 official appearances for the club, second in its history only to Ruslan Kazakov's 174. Alongside 5 goals, his 14 assists across the Russian Championship and Russian Cup make him the best assist provider among defenders in Leningradets' history.
Nikolaev's development ran through Russia's youth setup as well. He was capped twice for the Russia U17s during UEFA U-17 Championship qualifying in 2020, then added four appearances for the U19s — two friendlies and two UEFA U-19 Championship qualifiers — in 2021 and 2022, without finding the net at that level.
