About the player
Ties Wieggers spent two full seasons on De Graafschap's bench. He had joined the club's academy as a boy from Lichtenvoorde, moving over from local amateur side Longa '30 in 2013, and worked his way through the ranks until he was promoted to the first-team squad for the 2021/22 season. What followed was a long wait: two years as an unused substitute, watching from the sidelines while others kept goal.
The breakthrough came on 11 August 2024, when Wieggers was handed his debut in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, a match De Graafschap won 4–3. Joshua Smits was established as the club's first-choice goalkeeper. That changed in March 2025, when an injury to Smits opened the door, and Wieggers took his opportunity to become the regular number one.
The club rewarded him that June with a contract extension to 2027, with an option for a further year, describing the young goalkeeper as a face of the new De Graafschap. It marked a significant vote of confidence in a player who had come entirely through the academy system.
Right-footed and standing 192 centimetres tall, Wieggers now wears the number one shirt at the club where he has spent almost his entire career, save for those early years in Lichtenvoorde's amateur football.
