About the player
Tijs Velthuis joined PEC Zwolle on loan from Sparta Rotterdam in February 2026, and the move became permanent on 14 May 2026 when Zwolle exercised its purchase option.
Velthuis, born in Oldenzaal, came up through the academy system at FC Twente after starting out at local club Quick '20. AZ Alkmaar signed him in 2019, and he spent several seasons with Jong AZ before a loan spell at NAC Breda in the 2022–23 season, where he made 28 appearances. Sparta Rotterdam then took him on a free transfer in 2023, handing him a three-year contract with an option for a fourth year.
The following season took him to Italy. Salernitana signed him on loan for the first half of the 2024–25 campaign, where he made 8 appearances in Serie B, before he moved on loan again in January 2025, this time to Sassuolo. He made no competitive appearances there, but was still part of the squad that won the Serie B title that season.
At youth international level, Velthuis was capped four times for the Netherlands under-17s and once for the under-18s, without going on to add senior caps.
