Al Jazira Al Hamra

Al Hamra Stadium holds barely 2,000 people, on the edge of Ras Al Khaimah. It is a setting for a club that has never lifted a major trophy, in the President's Cup or in the division it currently occupies, the UAE Division 1, the second tier of the national game.

The name itself carries the local colour: Al Hamra means "the red one," a reference to the reddish soil of the area, and the club has taken black and red as its own. Founded in 1968, Al Jazirah Al Hamra shares its year of origin, oddly, with the near-abandonment of the village by the Al Za'abi tribe who once lived there, a coincidence rather than a cause, but one that ties the club's beginnings to the settlement's own uncertain history.

Emirates Club, also of Ras Al Khaimah, sits close enough that their meetings are known locally as the Ras Al Khaimah Derby. Al Jazirah Al Hamra has stayed a Division 1 side, playing out its rivalry and its home games in a stadium that will never need to hold more than a couple of thousand.
