Sagawa Express put out a works team in Kyoto in 2005 to climb the regional leagues.
As Mi-O Biwako Kusatsu it won the Shakaijin Cup in 2007, then went up to the Japan Football League the following year after finishing third in the promotion play-offs. In 2022 it finished bottom of the JFL table and avoided relegation only because the league itself was being enlarged.
The rebrand came in 2023, when a new backer, the Rei Beauty Dermatology Clinic, gave the club its current name, Reilac — Rey for king, Lac for the lake it plays beside, in Hikone. Shiga Prefecture has no other J.League club, so Reilac has never had a derby to speak of.
