Inter Zapresic

Zaprešić sits in the shadow of Zagreb, and for decades a ceramics factory called Jugokeramika gave the place its industrial name. NK Inter Zaprešić grew out of that same ground, founded in 1929 as NK Sava and renamed as the factory took it over, so long that "Keramičari" stuck to the club even after the sponsorship ended.

The town's size never matched what the club managed on the pitch, which is where the nickname "Div iz predgrađa" — the Giant from the Suburb — came from. The high point was the 2004–05 season, when Inter Zaprešić finished second in the Croatian First League, the best league placing in the club's history. It also won the Croatian Cup in 1992, under coach Ilija Lončarević, who returned the club to the Second League title a decade later.

For a few seasons in the mid-2000s, the club became an unlikely finishing school for Dinamo Zagreb's academy, taking in young players on loan to get first-team minutes away from the capital. Luka Modrić and Vedran Ćorluka both passed through Zaprešić this way. Ilija Nestorovski later did the reverse, finishing as the league's top scorer with 25 goals in 2015–16.

None of it was enough to keep the books balanced. The club folded in July 2022 under financial strain, and the following year its trophies and memorabilia went to auction. The Zaprešić–Zagreb derby against NK Zagreb and NK Lokomotiva ended with it — leaving Zaprešić the town it was before Sava first took the field in 1929.
